Library Lookup for Bay Area libraries 0.5.0

Icon of a stack of booksAnother quick update: I’ve decided to expand my Chrome extension beyond the San Francisco Public Library, to be able to lookup books at libraries all across the Bay Area. I think it covers most of them, with some exceptions (for example, Berkeley). More may be added in the future. For now, the full list is:

  • San Francisco
  • Alameda County
  • Contra Costa County
  • Hayward
  • Livermore
  • Marin County
  • Napa County
  • Oakland
  • Palo Alto City
  • Pleasanton
  • San José
  • San Mateo County
  • Santa Clara County
  • Sonoma County
The county-wide library systems represent libraries from various cities in those counties. To switch between systems, you need to alter a setting in the extension’s options page. For more information, see previous posts, or here.

Hey, after a long absence, I’ve finally updated my San Francisco Public Library Chrome extension.

Long story short, I cooked up a cute little Chrome extension where, whenever you’re browsing a book listing on Amazon.com, it will automatically look up that book’s ISBN and let you know if it’s available at the San Francisco Public Library. Thinking of buying a book? Maybe you can save some money (and support your community) by picking up a copy at the library.

The extension is confirmed to work on Microsoft Edge, and it will probably work on any other Chromium-based browser, too. You can install it from the Chrome Web Store here.

Icon of a stack of booksI’m not sure when my LibraryLookup extension for Chrome browsers stopped working, but when I noticed it wasn’t, I took some time out to knock it back into shape. For those not familiar with the extension, it watches when you’re browsing Amazon and when it sees you looking at a book or other item that’s available from the San Francisco Public Library, it inserts a link into the Amazon page where you can find a copy or request one be shipped to your local branch.
